Baird says Kremlin has lost touch with reality for accusing West of plotting
OTTAWA – Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird says the Kremlin has lost touch with reality in accusing the West of plotting to control Ukraine.
Baird says Russia is ramping up its propaganda machine even as pro-Russian insurgents continue provocations in Ukraine’s southeast.
He was responding to remarks made a few hours earlier by his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
The Russian foreign minister accuses the West of seeking to control Ukraine to further its own political ambitions.
Baird says halting Russia’s dangerous actions remains a priority for the free world.
He was speaking to reporters from Latvia, the latest stop on his multi-country eastern European tour, which is aimed at demonstrating solidarity with some of Russia’s worried neighbours.
