Drunk driver and passenger arrested as child apprehended by B.C. government
NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. – Mounties in North Vancouver say they arrested two intoxicated adults in a vehicle and were alarmed to find a three-year-old child in the back seat.
Police say an officer noticed the female passenger of a parked vehicle drinking alcohol and learned that the male driver was also drunk.
The driver failed a roadside breath test and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition.
Police say neither of the adults were sober enough to care for the little boy, who was taken into the custody of the Children’s Ministry.
Cpl. Richard De Jong says the 39-year-old man and the 43-year-old woman, who is the child’s mother, were arrested Thursday night for being drunk in a public place and kept in police cells until they were sober.
De Jong says the incident is very disturbing for everyone involved.
