Pickup truck rear-ends Kamloops school bus

KAMLOOPS – Two people were taken to hospital following a crash involving a school bus in Kamloops this morning.

RCMP say a Kamloops school district bus stopped in traffic was rear-ended by a one-ton Dodge pickup truck in the 300 block of Tranquille Road at around 8:45 a.m. today, Oct. 12.

The man behind the wheel of the pickup told police he was distracted when he looked down to pickup his coffee cup, according to an RCMP media release.

The four students on the bus were not injured, but the bus driver and a teaching assistant were taken to hospital to be checked out by medical personnel. RCMP don't say how badly they were injured.

Police say the pickup truck suffered significant front-end damage and was towed from the scene and the school district has contacted the parents of the children.

The driver of the pickup truck was issued a violation ticket for following too close.
