Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts announces she will not seek a fourth term in office
SURREY, B.C. – Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts has confirmed she will not be seeking a fourth term.
She says she is stepping down as part of her promise to hold office for only three terms.
Watts says she has not decided what she will do after she finishes her job as mayor.
She confirmed that various groups have approached her to consider a career in federal politics, but would not comment further.
Watts, who won the last municipal election by over 80 per cent, was initially elected in 2005 and is the city’s first female mayor.
Municipal elections will be held in November.
