Mudslide-hit area in Shuswap is now classified as a no-stope zone

SALMON ARM, B.C. – A road affected by a mudslide in the Shuswap on Wednesday is now classified as a no-stop zone.

Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road in the McIntyre Creek area is open, but because of safety concerns the public is asked to keep clear if possible.

Cathy Semchuk with the Shuswap Emergency Management program says the area is classified as “unstable.”

She says it’s because of combination of debris, pooling water and unstable weather in the region.

Semchuk says an evacuation order for seven McIntyre Creek homes remains in effect. (CFJC)
