The Latest: Hotelier, family killed in Montana plane crash

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Latest on the death of three people in a plane crash in southeastern Montana (all times local):

3 p.m.

An owner of hotels in Michigan and Florida and his family are dead after their twin-engine airplane crashed in southeastern Montana.

Officials say 64-year-old Timothy Brown, 45-year-old Trisha Verhelle Brown and their 13-year-old son Theodore were on board a Beechcraft Baron that crashed Saturday in a grassy area about 12 miles south of the small town of Boyes (BOYS).

Timothy Brown was the owner of the historic Colonial Inn Hotel in Harbor Springs, Michigan as well as several hotels in Florida.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

The plane, which is registered in Florida, was headed from Billings, Montana to Rapid City, South Dakota when it crashed. Carter County Sheriff Neil Kittelmann says the family reported that they ultimately planned to fly to Michigan.

Three people were killed in the weekend crash of a twin-engine airplane in southeastern Montana.

Carter County officials say the Beechcraft Baron crashed at about noon Saturday in a grassy area about 12 miles south of the small town of Boyes.

Sheriff Neil Kittelmann told The Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/2cKXj3l ) in a story published Monday that the crash killed a 64-year-old man, a 45-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy.

The aircraft took off from Billings Logan International Airport and was headed to Michigan where the man and the woman owned a business.

The airplane was registered in Florida and the adults had Florida driver’s licenses.

The victims’ names have not been released. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
