DECATUR, Ga. – A Georgia man has been indicted on charges of driving a car that hit and seriously injured a 9-year-old girl playing in her front yard in suburban Atlanta.
The DeKalb County district attorney’s office said in a news release Thursday that 29-year-old Gabriel Jabri Fordham of Lithonia was indicted Tuesday in the March 29 crash. Charges include serious injury by vehicle and hit and run.
Fordham’s attorney, Gerald Griggs, says his client was trying to fight off a carjacker when the crash happened. Griggs said they plan a vigorous defence.
The car careened into LaDerihanna Holmes in front her home in Lithonia, causing a fractured skull and broken pelvis, among other injuries. Another girl playing in the yard suffered cuts and bruises.
The crash was caught on dramatic surveillance video.
