Mounties find two firearms hidden at high school on Vancouver Island

PORT MCNEILL, B.C. – RCMP have seized two firearms from a locked storage area at a high school in the Vancouver Island community of Port McNeill.

Police say officers found the weapons as part of an investigation into reports that a group of youths had several firearms.

Mounties are investigating the possibility that the guns originated from residential break-ins and would be traded for illegal drugs or sold for cash.

Sgt. Craig Blanchard says police do not believe the firearms were intended to be used to harm anyone at the school.

He says all indications are that the person who put them in the concealed area wanted them hidden, and not in their home.

Police have also found more guns in a wooden area in the nearby village of Sointula.
