State: Worker defrauded Tennessee university of nearly $40K

NASHVILLE – A state comptroller’s investigation has found that a Middle Tennessee State University worker defrauded the school of almost $40,000.

An investigative report released Tuesday says that university international recruiter Aryo Hasnugung faked and submitted at least 35 invoices to justify advances and reimbursements for international student recruitment trips from 2012 through 2016.

The report says vendors confirmed the invoices weren’t real and that MTSU wasn’t charged for or paid for the services listed. It says Hasnugung acknowledged to university staff that he submitted at least six fraudulent invoices. He was fired in June 2016.

A Rutherford County grand jury indicted him on four charges in May. It’s not immediately clear if he has retained a lawyer.
