Blimp that broke free over New Brunswick has likely deflated and landed: brewery
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Labatt Breweries says a 21-metre brewery blimp that broke free from a tether on Saturday has likely burst or deflated and descended north of Saint John.
Company spokesman Wade Keller says the company is hoping to hear from someone who comes upon the fallen promotional blimp, which was two storeys high when inflated.
It broke free on Saturday at about 2 p.m. as it was being lowered due to gusting winds.
Keller said the manufacturer of the helium-filled blimp — which has nothing on board other than lights — believes it would begin deflating upon reaching a height of about 1,600 metres.
He said it would have taken four to six hours to sink back to earth.
Flight officials in Moncton and Saint John were warned about the balloon, and Transport Canada issued warnings to pilots in southern New Brunswick.
