Bombers focusing on filling hole at centre on offensive line in CFL draft

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are taking a closer look this week at Laval’s Pierre Lavertu and Simon Fraser’s Matthias Goossen as they prepare for next months’ CFL draft.

After finishing in the CFL cellar last season, the Bombers want a player who can help them right now.

General manager Kyle Walters says they’re focusing on the offensive line and looking to acquire a centre and have brought in Lavertu and Goossen will be arriving shortly.

With the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft May 13, he’s pretty confident they can get one of the players they’ve identified as meeting their needs.

Despite Winnipeg’s last-place finish, they have to stand in line behind the expansion Ottawa Redblacks who get to pick first.

McGill’s Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Montreal’s David Foucault are currently ranked first and second in the draft but both offensive linemen are also expected to draw a lot of interest from the NFL.
