Prosecutors seek life sentence for man convicted of killing his 91-year-old DC socialite wife
WASHINGTON – Prosecutors say a man convicted of killing his 91-year-old German socialite wife in their Washington home should spend life in prison.
Prosecutors recommended a life term for 49-year-old Albrecht Muth in a court document filed ahead of sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.
Muth, who prosecutors said at various times pretended to be a count, an army officer and an Iraqi general, was convicted in January of killing wife Viola Drath. The writer and socialite was found dead in the couple’s row home in Washington’s posh Georgetown neighbourhood in August 2011.
Muth told police his wife had fallen, but the medical examiner’s office concluded her death was a homicide. A jury agreed.
Prosecutors say Muth is a “career con-man” and “serial wife-abuser.”
