Better have winter tires if you’re driving to Vancouver this weekend

SNOW ON ITS WAY TO MOUNTAIN PASSES

KELOWNA – A special weather statement has been issued by Environment Canada that warns snow will be falling at higher elevations on the Trans Canada Highway, Coquihalla Highway, Okanagan Connector and large portions of Highway 3.

The meteorologists are predicting significant snowfall throughout the weekend and are warning travellers along B.C.’s mountain highways to be prepared for icy conditions and reduced visibility.

A deepening low pressure system is expected to move across Southern B.C. changing rain to snow. The snow level will drop to around 900 m.

Ahead of the system, 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected over the mountain passes Friday night with an additional 10 to 20 cm of snowfall on Saturday as the low pressure system tracks further inland.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as they may be required or extended.
