COSAR and firefighters team up to rescue injured woman on Peachland mountain

Peachland – Search and rescue crews were out this morning to help firefighters rescue an injured woman from a Peachland mountain.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue stepped in to assist Peachland Fire Rescue to help a woman who broke her ankle around the summit of Pincushion Mountain.

The 46-year-old was hiking with family when she slipped and got injured, a media release says.

Firefighters packaged the woman and started carrying her down hill on a stretcher before they were met by COSAR.

Search and Rescue had a TrailRider backwoods access wheelchair, which is a single wheeled wheelchair with handles for carrying and steering.

The patient was transferred to the TrailRider and brought two kilometres to the waiting ambulance.

She was transported to hospital in Kelowna.

There were 11 firefighters and 11 COSAR volunteers present at the scene.
