California man whose gun killed boy gets 4 years in prison

SAN DIEGO – A San Diego man has been sentenced to four years in prison for leaving his gun in a garage where a 10-year-old boy who found it was shot to death.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Todd Francis was sentenced Wednesday.

Francis, 56, had pleaded guilty in February to two counts of felony child endangerment.

Eric Klyaz, who lived next door, was playing with Francis’ nine-year-old daughter last year when the pair found the gun.

Eric was shot in the chest.

The girl’s parents weren’t home and her teenage brother was upstairs when the gun discharged.

Francis told authorities he had hidden the weapon and thought it was unloaded.
