UPDATE: Revelstoke man winner of $20 million jackpot

VERNON – Peter Mueller of Revelstoke was announced today as the big winner of the $20 million Lotto 6/49, about 24 hours after verifying his ticket at the B.C. Lottery Centre in Vernon's Village Green Mall.

The 68-year-old retiree says he was on his way to Vernon when he heard on the radio the winning ticket was from his community. He was planning to stop for an oil change but decided instead to check his ticket, which was purchased at Malones Confectionary in Revelstoke, as soon as he got Vernon. While the clerk at the mall thought he must be joking about having a winning ticket at first it was quickly confirmed that he did in fact have the winning ticket.

"I've dreamed about winning the lottery and now my dreams have become reality," he says.

Mueller now plans on taking a trip to Mexico to golf and swim but will consult a financial advisor before deciding how to spend the rest of the money.

Many people have taken to social media first wondering who the winner was and if they were in fact a local or someone just passing through and then congratulating Mueller on his win.
