Bellamy Young from ‘Scandal’ visits broken sites on National Mall with group planning overhaul

WASHINGTON – Bellamy Young, better known as America’s first lady on the hit show “Scandal,” is taking a closer look at the city that’s her home on TV, including neglected sites on the National Mall.

The 44-year-old actress is visiting Washington for the first time since she started playing Mellie Grant and will attend the White House correspondents’ dinner this weekend.

On Friday, she joined a tour with a non-profit group working to restore the National Mall. She stepped gingerly in heels around potholes, mud and broken sidewalks in an area called Constitution Gardens.

Young says it’s disturbing to see the park in disrepair with dirty pools of water where fish die each year. She says she will help the Trust for the National Mall raise money for repairs.
