Doug’s Homestead artisan meat shop relocating to Kaleden

PENTICTON – A well known business located on Highway 3 near Hedley is making a move from the Similkameen to the South Okanagan.

Brent and Linette McClelland, owners of Doug’s Homestead, recently announced they would be moving the business to Kaleden after purchasing the Kaleden Restaurant.

Doug’s Homestead is an artisan meat shop located two kilometres west of Hedley and well known amongst the travelling public for its smoked and fresh meats.

It’s not an uncommon sight to see the parking lot of Doug’s Homestead filled with tourist trailers and recreational vehicles, and line-ups often form in front of the main entrance on summer mornings.

The business received an 82 per cent excellent rating in Trip Advisor and one review called Doug’s “a must stop for all carnivores.”

Brent says their intention is to expand the business through the purchase of the larger building, and expects to begin renovations around mid-November.

In additions to smoked meats, beef jerky, nine flavours of pepperoni and sausages of all kinds, Brent says he and wife Linette will be smoking hams and bacon in house at the Kaleden facility.

The couple also hopes to develop charcuterie and sell in-house charcuterie boards for take out. They expect to have room for seating as well.

“We’re going to continue doing what we’ve been doing, hopefully on a larger scale,” Brent says.

The McClellands will shut down the Hedley operation and are moving their family to Kaleden, where they will renovate the new premises in time for opening next spring.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
