Kenya police: 1 dead in 2 explosions in the capital city, Nairobi
NAIROBI, Kenya – A Kenyan police official says one person has died and several others were wounded in two explosions on buses in the capital, Nairobi.
Moses Ombati, the deputy police chief in Nairobi, said the blasts were on two buses on Thika Highway.
The explosions come a day after four people were killed in two blasts at the Kenyan coast. Police said a grenade thrown at a bus stop in the coastal town of Mombasa killed the four and a second blast at a public beach did not kill anyone.
Kenya has experienced a series of gun and explosives attacks since it sent troops to Somalia to fight the al-Qaida-linked militant group al-Shabab.
Al-Shabab has vowed to carry out attacks on Kenyan soil to avenge the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia.
