Vernon basement fire does significant smoke damage

VERNON – Fire crews have extinguished a small fire in the basement of a Vernon house, but not before it caused significant smoke damage.

Neighbours spotted smoke billowing from a home in the 7400 block of Pleasant Valley Road just before the noon today, Oct. 25.

BX-Swan Lake fire chief Bill Wacey says firefighters arrived to find the small fire smoldering in the basement. He says it had been smoldering for a while before neighbours saw it.

Wacey says no one was home and there were no injuries, but the house sustained "lots of smoke damage."

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, he says.
