Coquihalla highway closed in both directions

Weather conditions and a vehicle incident have forced the closure of Highway 5.

The Drive B.C. website reports due to a vehicle incident has closed the road between Highway 3 and Highway 97C for 109.3 kilometres between Hope and Merritt.

This morning, Sunday Oct. 28, the Drive B.C. Twitter page announced the vehicle incident northbound between Hope and Merritt at about 10:30 a.m.

Then about 15 minutes later Drive B.C. tweeted that both lanes were closed due to weather conditions.

The roads are slushy with slippery sections between Highway 97D and Inks Lake Rd for 18.4 kilometers, that is one kilometre south of Kamloops to 15 kilometres north of Surrey Lake Summit.

Alternate routes are available via Highway 1 or Highway 3.

At this time there is no word of when the highway will reopen.

Check the Drive B.C. website for more information.
