Kelowna Rockets edge Cougars in shootout

PRINCE GEORGE – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince George Cougars 7-6 in a shootout on Friday night in Prince George in the first of two Western Hockey League games between the two teams this weekend.

The Rockets led 4-2 after the first and 6-3 after two periods, before surrendering three third periods goals as the Cougars came back to force overtime.

But in the shootout Myles Bell and Justin Kirkland scored to earn the win as the Rockets improved to 10-2-0-2 on the season.

Bell also scored twice in regulation and Tyson Baillie also added a pair of markers for the Rockets. Justin Kirkland and Kris Schmidli also scored for Kelowna, while Jordon Cooke earned the win in net.

The Rockets outshot the Cougars 45-40 in the back and forth game.

The two teams meet again Saturday night in Prince George before the Rockets return to Prospera Place on Wednesday to host the Red Deer Rebels.
