Canadian Phil Mack celebrates rugby milestone as the World Seven Series wraps up

LONDON, England – Victoria’s Phil Mack celebrates his 50th rugby sevens tournament this weekend as Canada looks to punctuate a record season before a soldout crowd at Twickenham.
The Canadian men finished runners-up to New Zealand last week at the Glasgow Sevens in Canada’s best-ever result on the IRB World Sevens Series. That moved coach Geraint John’s team into sixth spot in the overall standings. Canada finished 13th last season.
The London Sevens, the final stop on the nine-event circuit, will open Saturday before a sellout of 75,000 at Twickenham.
Canada is in a pool with Kenya, Samoa and the United States.
John has made just one chance to his lineup, inserting Justin Douglas for the injured Mike Scholz.
Mack, who made his sevens debut in Hong Kong in 2006, is Canada’s all-time scoring leader with 856 World Series points. That ties him for 15th overall.
The Canadians are looking to qualify for the elite Cup competition for the sixth tournament in a row.
Spain and Portugal, meanwhile, will be looking to avoid relegation. The 15th-place team will lose its core status for next season and be replaced by Japan, which won promotion at an earlier qualification tournament.
