Trump leaving McConnell to handle Senate bill on health care

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump and his White House team are taking a hands-off approach to the health care bill under consideration by the Senate.

That’s a starkly different strategy than the one employed by Trump for the House health care bill. The House measure almost unraveled and exposed rifts in the GOP before being passed last month.

The Senate bill to dismantle so-called Obamacare is expected to get a vote by the end of next week, just before Congress goes on its Independence Day break.

The White House hopes the Senate debate on health care will allow Trump to get a fresh start on other issues. Chief among them are rewriting the tax code, a plan to rebuild roads and bridges, and his promise to strengthen the military.
