Arson, mischief charges laid in spate of 5 suspicious fires in Abbotsford, B.C.
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – Charges have been laid in connection with five suspicious fires in Abbotsford, B.C.
Police in the Fraser Valley city say 20-year-old Colby Jandrew faces four counts of arson and one count of public mischief related to the blazes that occurred in central Abbotsford over a 48-hour period last month.
In the two most serious pre-dawn incidents, a fire on April 16 threatened eight people living in suites attached to a convenience store, and on April 18, a family of four escaped from their home when flames damaged the carport and threatened to spread.
Two other fires were set in abandoned homes and a small blaze caused minor damage to an Abbotsford business.
Const. Ian MacDonald says residents and businesses played an important role in the investigation by working with the police department to report anything suspicious.
Jandrew was expected to appear in provincial court in Abbotsford on Monday.
