Snow expected in time for tomorrow morning’s commute in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – Today’s cool, sunny weather is about to make a wintery change prior to the start of the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says the high pressure ridge that has been giving us cool temperatures and sunny skies the last few days will begin breaking down this afternoon as a weather system spreads cloud into Kamloops this evening, Nov. 8, and overnight.

Temperatures will be cold enough for snow to begin falling, with amounts expected between one and four centimetres, says Castellan.

He cautions the Coquihalla could see as much as 15 cm by tomorrow afternoon before the system moves on.

“Motorists may well face winter driving conditions on the Coquihalla and on the valley floor tomorrow morning,” he says, adding it may not be cold enough for the snow to last more than a few hours on the ground before a high pressure ridge begins building behind the system of moisture.

Kamloops can expect mostly sunny skies and a high of 4 Celsius today, but things will start clouding over tonight with snow expected to start before morning.

The snow will end in the morning, followed by a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 6 C. Snowfall amounts of two to four cm are expected.

The forecast calls for sunshine on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with highs of around 4 C, and overnight lows below freezing.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
