SAVANNAH, Ga. – The movie director who was working on a film about singer Gregg Allman says he wasn’t in charge of permits or safety precautions on the set when a freight train crashed into his Georgia crew, killing one worker and injuring six others.
“Midnight Rider” director Randall Miller was grilled in court Monday about the Feb. 20 crash by an attorney for Allman, who is suing in Savannah to stop Miller from reviving the production.
Miller said he didn’t see the railroad bridge where the crash occurred until the day it happened and said he “did not know it was a live train trestle.” Asked about filming permits, Miller said, “That’s not my job.” He said crew members kept watch for trains, but he didn’t know how far down the tracks.
