NFL draft coverage a big hit on TV, overshadows Jack Bauer’s return for Fox

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The employment future of Johnny Manziel beats the return of Jack Bauer as a topic of interest for television viewers.

The Nielsen company says ESPN’s coverage of the first round of the NFL draft last Thursday was watched by just under 10 million viewers. That was easily the most-watched ever for the annual event. Interest was largely driven by the drama surrounding former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel, who was eventually picked by the Cleveland Browns.

Meanwhile, Nielsen said Tuesday that 8.1 million people watched the debut of “24: Live Another Day,” the miniseries that brought “24” lead character Bauer back to Fox’s schedule. That made it Fox’s most-watched show of the week.
