Second-degree murder charge after Nov. 4 death of Port Coquitlam man

PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. – A charge of second-degree murder has been laid following a slaying in Port Coquitlam, B.C.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Elwood Poorman was charged on Friday and will return to court on Tuesday.

Detectives say 36-year-old Jonathon Shingoose was found dead in a home earlier this month.

They described the incident as an altercation but did not say how Shingoose died.

A man in the home was taken into custody when Shingoose was found.

Police said the two men knew each other and there was no risk to public safety.
