Guatemala arrests radio sports show host in killing of rival club’s fan

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan police have arrested a radio host who leads a fan organization for the Club Municipal soccer team for allegedly inciting fellow fans to kill a supporter of a rival team.

Police said they arrested Marlo Puente Rimola and two other men for the April 27 beating and stabbing death of Kevin Diaz, a 17-year-old fan of the Comunicaciones team.

Puente Rimola had a local radio show covering events related to the Club Municipal team and leads its fan group.

On being arrested Tuesday, Puente Rimola denied any role in participating in or inciting the killing, saying he did not appear in videos of the mob that killed Diaz.

Following the slaying, both teams had to play matches in front of empty stadiums.
