Suspicious vehicle fires force evacuation of Kelowna apartments

KELOWNA – Residents of a Kelowna apartment building had to be evacuated after a number of vehicles caught fire.

The incident happened at about 4 a.m. today, Nov. 14, in the 1900 block of Pandosy Street, according to a news release from Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain John Kelly.

Numerous vehicles were burning when fire crews arrived. They were parked in a carport near the building. Smoke and heat from the fire sparked a small blaze on one balcony and cracked some of the exterior windows.

The fire was knocked down by fire crews, that included five engines and a ladder truck, and the building ventilated. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is deemed suspicious and is being investigated by Kelowna RCMP and Kelowna Fire Department investigators.
