RBC Cup: Tayler Thompson lifts Yorkton Terriers over Carleton Place Canadians

VERNON, B.C. – Tayler Thompson had the eventual winner as the Yorkton Terriers scored three unanswered goals for a 3-1 victory over the Carleton Place Canadians on Wednesday in RBC Cup preliminary round play.

The Terriers’ win means three teams — Yorkton, the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots and host Vernon Vipers — are competing for two semifinal berths on Thursday as the preliminary round of the Canadian junior A hockey championship comes to an end.

Brett Boehm and Chase Norrish both had power-play goals for Yorkton (1-2-0), while Kale Thomson made 25 saves for the win.

Anthony McVeigh’s short-handed goal gave Carleton Place (2-2-0) a 1-0 lead at the 9:36 mark of the first period. Guillaume Therien stopped 34 shots for the Canadians.

The Terriers went 2 for 6 on the power play, while Carleton Place did not score on its three man advantages.
