British snooker player Stephen Lee loses an appeal against his 12-year ban for match-fixing

SHEFFIELD, England – British snooker player Stephen Lee has lost an appeal against his 12-year ban for match-fixing.

The 39-year-old Lee, who has won five events in his career and was once No. 5 in the rankings, was found guilty last September of manipulating seven matches in 2008 and 2009.

World Snooker says in a statement released on Thursday that Lee will have to pay 35,000 pounds ($60,000) extra in costs and that he will be unable to compete in professional snooker before Oct. 12, 2024 — the date of his 50th birthday.
