Harper government considering further Temporary Foreign Workers crackdown

OTTAWA – The federal government is considering further crackdown measures on its embattled temporary foreign worker program.

The Canadian Press has learned that at a meeting of stakeholders Thursday, government officials said they’re considering implementing a so-called wage floor.

It would essentially mean that no temporary foreign workers could be paid beneath a set amount.

That would make it more difficult for companies like fast-food restaurants to access the program.

Stakeholders say there could also be higher fees for companies seeking temporary foreign workers.
