Canada’s women’s rugby team goes 2-1 on opening day of Amsterdam Sevens

AMSTERDAM – Canada’s women’s rugby team won two games and lost another on Friday to finish second in Pool C at the Amsterdam Sevens tournament.

Canada will face the United States in Cup quarter-final play Saturday.

Gislaine Landry scored three tries to lead Canada in a 28-0 rout of Brazil in Friday’s opening game. Bianca Farella, Mandy Marchak, and Kelly Russell also scored.

Landry scored two more tries and Kayla Moleschi added another in Canada’s 21-5 victory over the Netherlands. Marchak scored her second try of the day in Canada’s 10-5 loss to England.

Canada is third in the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series standings with 46 points. New Zealand leads with 76 and Australia is second with 74.
