Grenade thrown at car of Guyanese newspaper publisher

GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Guyanese police say a grenade was thrown at a car owned by the publisher of a leading newspaper.

Police spokesman Wendell Blanhum says no one was injured when an unidentified man in a passing vehicle threw the device at Glenn Lall’s SUV late Saturday. It was parked outside the Kaieteur News in the capital, Georgetown.

He says the device did not explode even though the safety pin has been removed.

Editor in Chief Adam Harris says someone wanted to send a message to the newspaper, which has been running stories about alleged corruption by the current and previous governments.
