New York school’s dance marathon dedicated to fallen trooper
SOUTH GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – A New York high school’s annual dance marathon is being dedicated to a fallen state trooper who was struck by a car and killed while on duty last year.
South Glens Falls High School in Saratoga County kicks off its 40th annual dance marathon Friday night. Organizers say more than 800 students will dance into Saturday night to raise money for charity. Since the event began in 1978, it has raised more than $5.6 million.
This year’s event is dedicated to Timothy Pratt. The 55-year-old state trooper was struck by a car and killed in October near his police station in Wilton, where he worked for most of his 29-year career.
Pratt was a South Glens Falls graduate and helped provide security at the marathon dances for many years.
