Man United hires Louis van Gaal as manager after firing David Moyes last month

MANCHESTER, England – Manchester United has hired Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal as the club’s new manager on a three-year contract.

Van Gaal, who will take up his new position after the World Cup in Brazil, replaces David Moyes following his firing last month after just 10 months in charge.

United great Ryan Giggs will be Van Gaal’s assistant.

The 62-year-old Van Gaal has experience of coaching some of the world’s biggest clubs after stints at Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in his 28-year managerial career, but has never managed in England.

He is United’s first manager from outside Britain and Ireland.
