Mounties suspend search for three missing men involved in B.C. canoe accident

NEW DENVER, B.C. – A 10-day search has been suspended for three canoeists missing in Slocan Lake near the southeast B.C. community of New Denver.

RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little says the extreme depth of the lake was one of the major reasons why searchers couldn’t find 15-year-old Jule Wiltshire-Padfield, 19-year-old Skye Donnet and 21-year-old Hayden Kyle.

The three males were with 19-year-old Lily Harmer-Taylor when their canoe flipped on the lake May 10.

Harmer-Taylor was found soon after but died despite resuscitation attempts.

Little says the search involved an RCMP dive team and helicopter, search-and rescue members, firefighters and local residents.

He says family members of the youths have been notified of the decision to terminate the search.
