Foreurs into Memorial Cup semifinal with 4-3 double overtime win over Oil Kings

LONDON, Ont. – Anthony Richard scores the double overtime winner for the Val-d’Or Foreurs in a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Memorial Cup on Tuesday.

The Foreurs advance to Friday’s semifinal with the marathon win that finished with Richard scoring on a breakaway 1:15 in the second overtime.

Pierre-Maxime Poudrier scored short-handed for the Foreurs with captain Samuel Henley and Shawn Ouellette-St-Amant also contributinhg a goal each for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champions.

Curtis Lazar had a goal and an assist for the Oil Kings. Henrik Samuelsson and Reid Petryk also scored for the Western Hockey League champions.

Edmonton outshot Val-d’Or 50-33. Foreurs goaltender Antoine Bibeau stopped 47 shots, including a penalty-shot attempt in the first period. Oil Kings goaltender Tristan Jarry made 29 saves in defeat.

The tournament’s final round-robin game pits the Ontario Hockey League champions the Guelph Storm against the host London Knights.

The Storm have already secured a berth in Sunday’s final with two wins, while the winless Knights need a victory to avoid elimination and get into a tiebreaker game.
