Ashton pays Penticton’s $32K byelection bill
PENTICTON – Mayor Garry Litke was gracious to chair MLA Dan Ashton when the former mayor visited city hall Monday night and there might be an extra special reason for that.
The courtesy might have been due to the respect council had for the former mayor. It might also have something to do with the $32,000 cheque Ashton carried to council chambers as part of his promise to cover the city's byelection costs. Ashton swore he would foot this bill when he resigned as mayor to run in the May 14 provincial election
Ashton is one of several municipal politicians recently elected to the legislature, but he is the only one to pick up the tab for the resulting byelection.
