‘American Idol’ crowns season 13 winner after battle of 23-year-old rocker and teen pop singer

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Rocker Caleb Johnson is the new “American Idol,” winning the title over teenage pop singer Jena Irene.

The 23-year-old Johnson, of Asheville, North Carolina, was announced on Wednesday’s “American Idol” finale as the audience’s choice.

But 17-year-old Irene of Farmington Hills, Michigan, will get a consolation prize. The two competitors and friends are set to attend her high school prom, host Ryan Seacrest said.
