Special weather statement issued for Coquihalla Highway

Environment Canada is calling for freezing rain along portions of the Coquihala tonight.

A strong weather system will hit the B.C. South Coast tonight and bring snow to the Coquihalla beginning this evening, Nov. 25, a media release says. Increasing southwesterly winds will lead to the development of a layer of warm air aloft which could melt falling snow. Should surface temperatures dip much below zero tonight, higher elevations of the Coquihalla could see a significant period of freezing rain begin before morning.

A great deal of uncertainty exists in the surface temperature forecast, however travellers should be aware of the potential for adverse travel conditions.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
