Father of woman killed filming Allman movie in Ga. says lawsuit part of safety ‘wake-up call’
SAVANNAH, Ga. – The father of a young woman killed while shooting a movie about Gregg Allman says the family is suing the singer and the filmmakers as part of a “wake-up call” to improve industry safety measures.
A wrongful death lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Savannah against Allman and producers of the film “Midnight Rider” by the parents of Sarah Jones. The 27-year-old camera assistant died Feb. 20 when a freight train slammed into the movie crew on a southeast Georgia railroad bridge.
Richard Jones said in an interview Thursday his daughter’s death was tragedy enough for many filmmakers to make voluntary safety improvements. But he said for some it takes “slapping them upside the head with the dollar.”
Attorneys and spokesmen for Allman and director Randall Miller made no immediate comment.
