Val-d’Or’s Anthony Mantha named Canadian Hockey League player of the year

LONDON, Ont. – Anthony Mantha of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the Canadian Hockey League’s player of the year.

The 19-year-old right-winger scored 81 goals in 81 regular-season and playoff games for the Foreurs.

The CHL combines the Western, Ontario and Quebec major junior hockey leagues.

Mantha, from Longueuil, Que., is a first-round draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings.

He had a goal and three assists in three games at the Memorial Cup.

The Foreurs lost in triple overtime to the Edmonton Oil Kings in the semifinal.
