TORONTO – Canada’s James Hinchcliffe is out of the Honda Indy Toronto.
The Oakville, Ont., native was forced to pit on the Lap 28 with engine problems that ended his day at Exhibition Place on Sunday.
Hinchcliffe was hampered by engine problems during practice Friday, forcing his team to change engines and incur a 10-grid spot lap penalty.
He qualified ninth for the race but the penalty dropped him back to the 19th starting position.
Hinchcliffe was the local favourite to win the race in just his second IndyCar season.
The 25-year-old was aggressive early, making plenty of passes to move up the field before the engine problems killed off his dream of winning his on home soil.
