LONDON, Ont. – The mayor of London, Ont. goes on trial today for fraud-related charges.
Joe Fontana is accused of using taxpayer dollars to help pay for his son’s wedding reception in 2005.
Fontana was a Liberal MP at the time of the alleged fraud, which police have valued at $1,700.
He has denied any wrongdoing and has refused to leave the mayor’s chair while his case is before the courts.
The charges against Fontana include fraud under $5,000, uttering a forged document and breach of trust by a public official.
