MONTREAL – Former McGill hospital boss Arthur Porter is hitting back at Quebec’s corruption inquiry
Porter is taking the Charbonneau Commission to task for its examination of the awarding of the $1.3-billion Montreal superhospital contract.
The contract is now the subject of alleged fraud of $22.5 million involving Porter and seven other people, inclduing former executives with engineering giant SNC-Lavalin.
Porter says calling the pending fraud case one of the largest corruption cases in Canadian history is libellous, given the matter has not yet gone to trial.
The former head of Canada’s spy watchdog agency denies any wrongdoing in the matter.
The interview was conducted by his biographer last week and was published today by Porter’s family on a website in support of him.
Porter made the comments from a Panamanian jail as he awaits word on extradition to Canada.
