Life after Cannes: a more normal existence might have to wait for Xavier Dolan

MONTREAL – Film director Xavier Dolan says he’s unsure what will happen to his pursuit of a normal, peaceful life following his big win in Cannes.

The 25-year-old phenom’s “Mommy” captured the Jury Prize on the weekend at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received glowing reviews.

Speaking to reporters in Montreal today, Dolan said he never anticipated such a reception for what is his fifth film in five years.

He had hoped to return to school in the fall and hang out with people his own age.

But following an overwhelming week Dolan says he will be occupied with promoting ‘Mommy” — a process that could see the film earn an Oscar nomination.

Dolan made a splash at Cannes in 2009 with his first film, “I Killed My Mother” (“J’ai tue ma mere”), which won three awards.

His other films are “Heartbeats” (“Les amours imaginaires”), 2010; “Laurence Anyways,” 2012; and “Tom at the Farm” (“Tom a la ferme”), 2013.
