SPCA recommends charges against B.C. woman in deaths of six dogs

VANCOUVER – The SPCA is recommending that animal cruelty charges be laid against a B.C. dog walker who’s accused of leaving six dogs to die in a hot truck earlier this month.

The animals were initially reported stolen from the woman’s truck while it was parked at a Langley, B.C., dog park, and a massive search was launched by the dog’s owners and community members.

Several days later, police said the bodies of the animals had been found dumped in a Fraser Valley ditch.

Marcie Moriarty, the SPCA’s chief prevention and enforcement officer in B.C., says they are still completing their investigation, but there was enough evidence for a recommendation of separate criminal charges including cruelty and neglect of animals.

Moriarty says the SPCA will be submitting its full report to Crown counsel as quickly as possible.

B.C. Mounties said last week they were also investigating the woman for possible public mischief charges.
